Buletin Keairan media Informasi Kegiatan Penelitian Keairan, Vol. 2 No. 2, Desember 2009, ABSTRAK : Priority of public demand in small islands like the Haruku and Saparua Islands in the Maluku Province is clean water. Other demand is very few due to little agricultural and industrial activites. Water source for clean water comes mainly from well sping and ground water, whereas rain water and surface water area rarely used. Purpose of this study is expected to provide information on water quality, water availability and potency of water resources development, and recommendation of exploiting technology and or water treatment. Whereas, result of study shall support the acquired information for the compilation of pattern and management plan of over-all river water resources. Results of water requirement on the Haruku and Saparua islands show that clean water demand can be fulfilled by well spring water. Although water quality condition is meeting the criteria according to Government Regulation No. 82/2001, the are many complains on lime sediment endangering the health of local community if water is consumed for a long period. Technical recommendation suggests the construction of a sedimentation chamber in storage tank and the disinfection of pathogen bacteria as minimum treatment. A Simple treatment is also suggested for the reduce of lime sediment.
