The Organizing Committee of the 4th National Archaeological Seminar to be held March 3-8. 1986 in Cipanas (Bogor), Indonesia warmly welcomes the participants of the Seminar, and acknowledges their kind cooperation and active participation in the Seminar. The Committee in this occasion would like also to thank the staff members of the publication section of the National Research Centre of Archaeology in preparing this Proceedings.

These volumes are a compilation of most papers already received by the Committee The Committee apologizes that some of the papers could not be included in the Pro Iceedings yet, for reasons beyond our control. These papers will be distributed in the Seminar.

The Proceedings consists of Volume I, II (A and B), and III. Volume I consists of 26 papers dealing with Man, Environment and Technology, discussed from paleoanthro pological, paleoecological and technological point of view. Volume IIA (25 papers) discuss Social aspects, while Volume IIB (38 papers) discuss Cultural aspects seen from religion, economy, language and arts. Volume III (18 papers) includes matters concem. ing methods, theories and models in archaeology. According to plan papers which are not submitted in time, will be published later in Volume IV.

The Committee hopes that all participants will have a fruitfull and enjoyable Semi nar, and that particularly those coming from abroad, will have a pleasant stay in Indonesia.
